2-Octyl and n-Butyl cyanoacrylate adhesives are currently approved for medical use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the U.S., and with the CE Marking in the European Market. These medical adhesives eliminate the need for bandages and suture removal resulting in fewer postoperative visits. Acting as occlusive and protecting dressing, the thin waterproof film that forms after polymerization also acts as antibacterial protection, therefore inhibiting inflammation. Compared to standard sutures, medical cyanoacrylate adhesives decrease surgical time, are easer and faster to apply, and offer equivalent traction force.
